Our cat Sasha died sometime Saturday night. She was nineteen and a half years old.
I took this picture Saturday afternoon when I knew this was it. Poor thing is just skin and bones; she always had a hard time keeping weight on, and maybe weighed 3-4 pounds when she died.
Quite honestly, we've been thinking she's going to die for the past 5 years or so, but each time things looked bad, she'd pull through. This time, I knew it was for real when I noticed on Friday that she wasn't eating. She also started following me around the house (very unusual, especially since David was always her favorite). I could also see she had lost even more weight, and felt cold to the touch. So, Saturday night I built a fire in the fireplace, put a blanket down in front of it, and sat there with her, reading a book. Before I went to bed I brought her over to the kitchen counter, put her on a towel, tried to cover her a bit with another one to be warm, and went to bed. The boys and I buried her in the back yard on Sunday.
I'll miss her, and it's quiet, but at the same time, it's kinda like we've been ready for this forever.
I'm so sorry. I couldn't imagine loosing a pet after all those years.
ReplyDeleteI'm really sorry. It sounds like you were so caring to her.
ReplyDeleteI remember meeting Sasha, and glad I was able to. You were so kind to her on her last day, and I'm sure you were all 19 years as well. When my Blueberry died, I found that after I got another kitty, it hurt less. It's different with pets than people. Mr. Bonkers was waiting for me at the HAWS shelter, and he's sitting on the couch with me right now. Maybe there's a Mr. Bonkers waiting for you too.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your beloved Sasha!
ReplyDeleteAwwwww. She looked ready to go after having hung on for so long.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my 19 y/o in much the same way this summer--its amazing how hard it is, even when you know it's time. It's easy to tell that Sasha was a beauty in her day and very much loved.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss.
ReplyDelete19 years with one cat is amazing. I'm sorry for your loss. We lost a guinea pig this weekend. Hardly comparable, but it makes me even more sympathetic. So sorry!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your loss. When my dad was dying, we talked about everyone he would see in heaven. A name at the top of the list was O'Malley, our cat who died at the age of 12. After all, how can it be heaven if your pets aren't there? What a sweet kitty you had there. (Or not -- I am a new reader -- maybe she was mischievous -- but whatever she was, she was loved.)
ReplyDeleteHi first time visiting your blog, kinda bitter sweet....so sorry about the loss of Sasha, we are preparing ourselves for losing our adorable border collie Jessie as she is 17 and slowly deteriorating,
ReplyDeleteOn a happier note your blog is amazing or should I say you are....your sewing abilty is awesome and I ve only read a few entries, the joker suit WOW....the quilt DBLE WOW oh and I loved the post about the butterfly....I will definitely be back
Poor Kitty. :( She's across the rainbow bridge now playing with the others who've gone ahead of us.
ReplyDeletePoor little kitty. It is so sad to hear that.
ReplyDeleteI know this is very, very belated... as I've just found your blog and all. But I feel your pain, we lost our Golden Retriever last summer... 13 years old... hard to believe they are gone when they become so much a part of your life. I imagine they are just having the time of their life (after life?) in Heaven... running, sunning and playing...
